Stock Name Meaning: Originates from the Olde-English word 'stocc' which was the word used to describe a tree trunk.

A name which became popular after the Norman Conquest (may have come from the place in Normandy named Stock). The name may have also been given to someone who lived near a large tree or tree trunks (or possibily something made out of tree trunks). May have also been a name given to someone who looked after the punishment stocks or a nickname for someone 'stout'.
